Salsa fabrics and materials: clothes with a suede effect

At Salsa, we're experts in fabrics like denim (jeans) — and there's absolutely no doubt about that. But we also like experimenting with other materials (especially if they go well with denim), such as leather or suede effect fabric. Suede effect fabrics are very special: they never go out of style and they give you a comfortable, natural look, whatever you pair them with.

Before giving you some ideas on how to wear suede effect clothes and accessories, here are a few tips on how to care for and clean this fabric.

  • First, it’s very important to remember that this fabric is a little more delicate than denim, for example. This doesn't mean that it's hard to take care of; it just means that you have to be a little more careful with it.

  • Waterproof your clothes before wearing them for the first time. This fabric doesn't do well in wet or humid weather. That’s why it’s important to spray your clothes with a good waterproofing spray before wearing them for the first time. This treatment will also create a protective film that will prevent staining.

  • Invest in a specific clothes brush for this fabric. These brushes have special synthetic bristles and are suitable for cleaning suede effect or velvet leather fabrics.

  • Store your clothes properly. Particularly shoes and boots: make sure you keep them in a box or bag to prevent them from gathering dust.

  • Think about the right occasion for wearing your outfit. In other words, be smart with your clothes: for example, if it's raining heavily, suede effect clothes probably aren’t the best option that day.

  • Don't machine wash or dry shoes: a brush or a dry cotton cloth will be more than enough to clean them.

How to match your suede effect clothes and accessories

And for those days when you can (and should!) wear these clothes, here are some ideas for matching them and creating your looks.

How should I wear suede boots or ankle boots?

The most classic use for this material is in accessories, particularly footwear. In order to help your boots last longer, remember that it’s best to wear them with jeans in light shades (dark colours can run) or skirts or dresses. We love this option with a winter dress!

For men, suede or leather shoes are perfect with chinos: they add an informal touch to a more formal outfit.

Looks with dresses and suede effect clothes

For the more daring, we recommend a good, suede effect dress. Paired with leather boots, this is the perfect look for any winter.

Clothes made from this fabric also have specific care instructions: they must be washed in a delicate cycle (30º), you can't use bleach on them and they must not be tumble dried or ironed (they don't need to be anyway).
