Combine different washes
The first trick is easy: jeans normally come in different shades or washes. Combine dark, medium and light washes to break the monotony of total denim.
The simplest thing to do is pair a light denim shirt with dark jeans or a dark denim skirt. If the difference in shades is enough, you’ll have the best of both worlds: a uniform effect and an interesting contrast in your look. Discover our guide for matching dark jeans: for men or for women.
Another thing you can work with is the texture of the denim. For example, ripped or distressed jeans break up (for want of a better way of saying it) the uniformity of a total denim look. This option gives you a monochrome look without being boring, and moves away from the cowgirl aesthetic.
Coloured jeans: your allies
A variation of the previous trick is to choose one item (jeans, for example) with a solid colour.
White, beige and black are the colours most commonly found, and they're perfect for wearing with your denim jackets or shirts.
Contrasting accessories
And if you're worried that this trend might become monotonous, look for a belt, shoes or a bag that will make a good contrast and prevent the denim from being the centre of attention.
